Drainage Solution in Central Saanich
In the previous winters, the owners had experienced some soggy lawns and wanted some solutions. Exasperating the problem was that two thirds of their backyard was behind a massive set of retaining walls that drained onto this lawned area. I thus proposed two solutions:
First we’d catch any water coming out of the drain pipes in the face of the wall with catch basins. Then, any subsurface water that makes it to the lawn is caught by a line of French drains. All of this water would then be routed to the house’s perimeter drain, where it would evacuate to the storm drain system.
As there was no machine access, everything was done manually with a mattock, shovel, and rake. Excavated material was left on site to expedite the work and keep things simple. At the end, sod was restored to maintain the look of the yard.
